Spies, political unrest and divorce: secrets from the set of The Crown

With Olivia Colman ensconced on the  throne and the ’60s in  full swing, the latest series of our ordinary royal drama is returned â€"  with spies, political unrest and divorce. And that’s just for starters.

Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown, is looking decidedly twitchy. "I long to jot down men with laptop weapons spraying one one more filled with lead," he says. Tellingly, the television drama he has most enjoyed looking at whereas working on The Crown is Gomorrah, in keeping with journalist Roberto Saviano’s account of mafia violence in southern Italy.

"I’d like to be discovering new methods to homicide americans." He jabs a finger in the course of the subsequent room, the place the Queen (Olivia Colman) and the Duke of Edinburgh...
